Retro gaming's flagship titles
With the retro fad in full swing at the moment with everyone buying retro bags, clothes and anything with the word 'retro' stuck in front of it, we're going to take alook at retro gaming. This is where people buy or dig the old consoles out of their attic and basically remember their childhood. The Super Mario Bros, Sonic, Pacman, Tetris etc. One of retro gamings advantages is that it can be a cheap hobby- picking up an old console and games for less than the latest models. Yes, it wont be as technically impressive, but those games still are alot of fun to play -heres afew we still get misty eyed over.
Tetris. Nintendo had the brilliant idea of selling Tetris with their new hand held console, the game boy, which ended up clocking up 27 million consoles sold worldwide. The goal of Tetris was to clear all the blocks that dropped down from the top of the screen. The game gets faster as you progress through the levels and if the blocks reach the top of the screen its game over. Once Tetris was in the home almost all the family engaged in playing it.- so simple to get ino, yet so hard to put down.
Pacman. Everyone in their forties will remember Pacman. This was THE videogame of the 1980s, where players navigated Pacman around the maze to eat all the white balls and avoid the ghosts. When Pacman was released in 1980 the whole world went crazy for the game and books, songs, and various merchandise was made in the name of the yellow ball.
Mario bros. At the height of 'Mario mania' he was more well known to kids than Mickey Mouse was in the ninties. Making his first appearance in the game Donkey Kong, Mario got his big break on the NES console with his brother Luigi, and have become one of gamings biggest icons. The Mario bros had to save princess Peach from the clucthes of a giant dinsoaur named Bowser, this would require them to jump on turtle shells, collect coins and use mushrooms and stars as powerups. Mario has since broadened his range, from kart racing, sports, RPG's and party games.
