Ways To Make Duvet Covers
Have you been playing around with the idea of making yourself a duvet cover? Well this article has been written just for you. Just take a note pad and a pen and read through this article right to the end.
The question on how to make duvet covers can be answered in a variety of ways. My focus will be on just one specific one. Here is the first thing you need to do, choose the fabric you will be using. You will also have to take some measurements i.e. the width and the length using a tape measure. You need to know the size of the bed you will be using it on. For example, Are you going to be using it on a single bed, queen, twin or double?
Now here is what I suggest you do. Two things, look for a washable material and (2) make sure it does offer some decorative appeal. light weight material is usually more appealing. Of course you need to take the weather and climatic conditions of your area into consideration.
Now you need to choose two lengths of fabric that should be about 54 inches wide. It is always good to make it slightly wider. This will be used on the front of the duvet cover. Be sure that the panels are the same size as the measurements of the length as mentioned earlier.
-Find home decorator fabrics. These should be about 54 inches wide that is able to cover a duvet cover to 104 inches wide. Chances are your duvet is wider. if you do have a wider duvet you can just purchase another panel of material.
-The next thing to consider is prints and patterns. depending on the type of prints you will go for some adjustments may be necessary. for instance, you may have to elongate your panels.
-The next step is to pre-wash and then iron the material.
-Once you have done that you then need to fold the front panel. Fold them to half lengths.
-You may need to use an iron to make some sharp creases at the folds. Once you’ve done the ironing you may then unfold the fabric.
-Do this to the back panels as well.
-Now you need to draw a line that goes down the length of the crease on the panel. Do this using a yard stick and also get yourself a fabric marking pen to do this with ease.
-you need to make six panels by cutting out each line. That is, three will be on the back side and then three for the front of the duvet cover.
-Now the next step on how to make duvet covers is to just pin one panel that is tapered to one side of the visible side or front rather that is still uncut. pin it down so that all the edges of the material are tightly knit together and the sides of the fabric are also together.
These tips provided above should be enough for you to create your own duvet cover. Yes there might be a few more steps to go but then it is all up to you how you want to wrap it all up and make one that will suite just your taste and style.
