Discovering The Basic Face Shapes
Many do not realize how many face shapes there are. Recognizing your face shape helps with getting the correct hairstyle, jewelry, necklines and more. There are several different shapes. Some believe in the classical face shape and others believe there are no true face shapes. This has lead to people disagreeing on how many types there are.
The first thing to do to discover your face shape is to simply look in the mirror. If you have long hair, pull it back into a ponytail. If it is short try a headband. Then you want to measure your areas of your face like across your forehead, your jaw, cheekbones, and from your hairline to the tip of your chin. Once you get the measurements you can go to many different websites to see which shape best fits you.
Once thought to be the most ideal, the oval shape is a popular one. If you are an oval type, your measurements would indicate your face is 60% longer from your chin to your hairline. Smaller features also come with an oval shaped face.
Rectangle or oblong is a more common face shape. That means it measures more than 60% longer than it is wide. This is also thought to be one of the most recognizable face shapes. The rectangle would be more angular while the oblong is rounded.
If you have strong angles across your jaw and forehead you would be considered to have a square face. Often mistaken for other type, the angles are sometimes not as defined as others.
One of the less desirable face shapes would be the round face. Women have often times been thought of has having excess weight in their facial area. With more rounded lines than any of the others, the measurements would be less than 60% longer vertically than horizontally.
There are many more types out there as it has not been agreed on one certain list. Maybe your's is heart shaped or triangular. Discovering your own face shape will help in finding the right hair style for you. You can work with your hairstylist to find one that not only frames your face but you feel most comfortable with. If however, you and your stylist do not agree on your face shape, do not panic. This is not an exact science and no one is wrong or right. You will feel great about yourself knowing your style was made for you.
