Save Cash And Print Decals And Stickers For Models With Your Home Printer
Making miniature models has been an American pastime for many years. There are hundreds of different types of models available for every type of enthusiast. Airplane and car models are some of the most popular model varieties. Model boats, houses and era specific crafts are all popular as well. People build models for numerous reasons like home decorations, presentations or school projects. One of the difficulties when trying to build a model is finding all the supplies you need. For special projects or models that you want to add a personal touch, it might be easier to print your decals and logo's from home. Do not be limited by what’s available in a store. Unleash your creativity and imagination by producing a one of a kind decal for that extra personal touch.
The supplies you will need are: sticker or decal paper, a craft knife, ruler, cutting surface, printer ink cartridges, glue, templates or other cutting guides.
Step-by-Step.
1. If you do not already have decal paper on hand, stop by your local craft store and choose the paper that best fits your vision. You can usually find them in the standard 8 1/2" x 11" size. You have the option between choosing clear of white.
2. Cutting tools and templates can be found at the craft or hobby store as well as a scrap booking supply store. It is recommended that you use a self healing cutting surface and a small knife like and exacto-blade.
3. You can retrieve logos and other images from the internet or try your hand at making custom designs using a design program. If you are looking for images, start with Google images. Another place to find a company's logo is to check out their website and download the image.
4. Make sure to consider how much printer ink the image will use and then print it off with your home computer. If you cut and paste more than one to a blank document, you will be able to save on the sheets. Another way to cut down on paper and printer ink is to adjust the size of the image.
5. To ensure clean edges, use your cutting tools and templates. A knife will work better and look cleaner than a pair of scissors. You might need to let the printer ink dry first to avoid colors being smeared.
6. Now you are ready to adhere them to the model. Check to see that the surface is clean and dry. Use glue only if it is needed to seal down edges.
Printing your decals at home gives you a chance to truly express your creativity and gives you the chance to personalize it. The only drawback is that you will use a lot of printer ink cartridges, which can be expensive. On the other hand, the ability to make custom and unique decals makes printing at home worth it. You will surely have the most original model out there. Use your new creations to decorate your room or fill a display case for all to see.
